Why Is Tooth Extraction Needed
There are multiple situations in which saving a damaged or diseased tooth may risk your oral health. Our Channelview dentists may recommend tooth extractions if you have:
- Tooth decay: Small cavities can be restored with fillings, but severe tooth decay can cause extreme pain, necessitating removal.
- Dental injuries: If a tooth breaks or fractures due to a high-impact dental injury, it possibly cannot be saved with restorative treatments.
- Gum disease: Advanced gum disease can result in severe gum recession and loose teeth, which may need to be removed.
- Impacted teeth: In cases where teeth remain impacted under the gums or jawbone, we will extract them surgically to avoid future complications.
- Dental treatments: Certain treatment plans may require tooth removal, such as orthodontic treatment or placement of implants.
Questions About Tooth Extractions?
Types of Tooth Extractions We Perform In Channelview, TX
At the time of your initial examination, our dentist will assess your oral cavity and dental X-rays to determine the safest approach to extract your teeth.
- Simple Tooth Extraction
In most cases, the damaged teeth are easily accessible and visible above the gum line, so we opt for simple extraction. Our dentist will start by injecting a local anesthetic to numb your teeth. Once they are numb, we will use manual tools to loosen the tooth within its socket.
Our goal is to extract the tooth as a whole without causing collateral damage. After loosening the tooth, we will remove it carefully and place a gauze on the extraction wound to minimize bleeding. - Surgical Tooth Extraction
If your teeth are impacted within the gums or jawbones, our Channelview specialists will suggest surgical tooth extraction. It is particularly recommended for impacted wisdom teeth. After anesthetizing your teeth, we will place a small incision on the gums. Next, we will trim some part of the bone to access the tooth.
If the tooth cannot be removed in one piece, we will section it into smaller parts for safe extraction. After removing the tooth, our dentist will place sutures to close the incision and allow proper recovery.

What People Say About Us
I would highly recommend this dental office to anyone looking for a dentist. The office staff was very helpful and friendly, the wait time was very minimal. From the time we started the exam till when we left we felt comfortable. Dr.Nguyen and his assistant made my daughter feel very comfortable and at ease throughout her entire procedure by explaining each step as they went.

Lovely staff and great doctor. He talks you through everything and is very personable. We moved about 45 mins away but will still make the drive to see Dr. Nguyen. I gave 4 stars because after I brought my husband after I had a great visit, we had to remind the staff that we weren't being tended to and just waiting in one of the exam rooms.

Dr Reza Rahgozar, Dr Smith and staff took amazing care of me. I hadn't been to a dentist in almost 4 years and they gave me a thorough deep cleaning and evaluation. He scanned my whole mouth in 3D and is going to use the 3D scan to make some Invisalign type guards to protect and straighten my teeth. None of it hurt and was comfortable the whole time. Felt like hanging out with an old friend.
